As we have only six returning students (11 graduates and 2 moved), there are many new eager 3rd graders to take their place. It's wonderful to watch a new crop begin!
Alumni Xavier Ochoa (3 years at Homework Central) has returned to help, and has great news: he made the Borel Honor Roll! Also returning is my aide Guillermo Vasquez as he continues his studies at S.F. State. Our new staff addition is Dianna Mota, a Hillsdale High School junior. What a joy to have both Dianna and Guillermo.

The Homework Central tutorial Program located at the Dr. Martin Luther King Site is going very well. We began the school year with a total of twenty very active third, fourth and fifth grade students. The Horrall Elementary School students receive tutorial assistance completing their home work packet, four days per week. Our tutorial staff is made up of very capable and experienced tutors, along with a core of high school student tutors from San Mateo, Aragon, Notre Dame, and Crystal Springs High Schools. We recently gained a few young college students whom are excited about giving their support to young students. Six of our experienced tutors recently met with the third, fourth, and fifth grade teachers at Horrall Elementary School to discuss the educational needs of the students assigned to the HWC program. These joint staff meetings have proved to be extremely beneficial. We completed the first term of the school year with a spirited holiday party including snacks provided by Ev Penzel; each student also received a small present which was provided by members of the Chalice Christian Church. Students returned from the holiday season to begin the second semester of the school year on January 3, 2006.
